Fort Building: A Community Workshop with Damien Gilley

Come join us for a weekend of fun collaboration and group construction. Together we will use recycled cardboard, tape, and hot glue to build forts and other add-ons, altering the space inside the Hornell Community Art Center.
Children accompanied by adults or parents are encouraged. Kids will act as “foremen”, giving verbal design, command, and descriptions of the forts and alterations while adult participants will serve as “workmen” helping to construct the forts and handling some building tools.
Schedule of Events:
Sat August 30th: Hornell Community Art Center
12pm-1 pm: Damien will present a short lecture describing his past projects and introduce the group building
1pm: Fort construction and tool demonstration
2pm-5 pm: Group building

Damien Gilley is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator in Portland, Oregon. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including Tetem Kunstruimte (Enschede, Netherlands), EastWestProject (Berlin, DE), Suyama Space (Seattle), Las Vegas Art Museum, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art (Omaha, NE), Arthouse (Austin), the Art Museum of South Texas (Corpus Christi), and in Portland at Rocksbox, Linfield College, Wieden+Kennedy, the American Institute of Architects, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and the Portland 2010 Biennial, among others.
